North Bay, Ontario - Conseil scolaire catholique des Grandes Rivières (CSCDGR), Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est (CSPNE), District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1), and the Northeastern Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) are announcing the adoption of a common school calendar.
Following the creation of their new student transportation consortium, announced on June 19, the four Northeastern Ontario school boards have reached an agreement on a common calendar for the 2026–2027 school year.
This decision follows consultations with each board’s school communities and formal approval by the trustees of all four boards. The proposed calendar is currently in draft form only and remains subject to approval by the Ministry of Education, which is typically granted in the spring. The four school boards are sharing this information now to ensure families are informed well in advance of the new school year.
The CSCDGR, CSPNE, DSB1, and NCDSB also take this opportunity to announce the name of the new transportation consortium that will serve all four school boards beginning in September: Transport EnRoute Consortium.
In a joint statement, the four Directors of Education, Jérémie Lepage (CSCDGR), Natalie Joncas-Raymond (CSPNE), Lesleigh Dye (DSB1), and Tricia Weltz (NCDSB) stated: “This announcement reflects the strong partnership we have intentionally built over the past several months. The Transport EnRoute Consortium aligns with our shared commitment to serving our communities while strengthening both our financial stewardship and operational efficiency. Through this model, and with a common school year calendar in place, we are working collaboratively in the best interests of the families we serve.”
Communities concerned by this calendar for the CSPNE are Hearst, Kapuskasing, Timmins, Iroquois Falls and New Liskeard.
