For Immediate Release

North Bay, Ontario – The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSPNE) is pleased to share an important development regarding the future of École publique aux Quatre-Vents.

The transfer of the McDougall Public School building to CSPNE remains at the heart of ongoing discussions between the Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario and the Near North District School Board (NNDSB). With the opening of the new Parry Sound High School in June 2026 and the start of full school operations in September 2026, both school boards continue working toward finalizing the agreement.

Discussions regarding the details of the agreement are currently underway and, pending the approvals required under the Education Act and its regulations, CSPNE is expected to take possession of the building by the end of summer 2026. Once the transfer is complete, planning and renovation work will begin to prepare the facility for students and staff of École publique aux Quatre-Vents, with a planned move-in date of January 2028.

This new environment will better meet the needs of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 by providing more spacious facilities. The project will also include the opening of the first French-language childcare centre in the Parry Sound community. The childcare centre will serve infants (under 18 months), toddlers (18 months to under 30 months), and preschool-aged children (30 months and older).

“This announcement marks an important milestone for the future of French-language public education in Parry Sound. This project will provide students and families with a modern, welcoming learning environment designed specifically for them. We will continue working closely with our partners to ensure a smooth and positive transition for students and families.”

— Natalie Joncas-Raymond, Director of Education, and Denis Labelle, Chair of the Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario

CSPNE will continue to communicate with families and the community as the project progresses and as new information becomes available.

An information session will also be held on June 8 at 6:00 p.m. at École publique aux Quatre-Vents to meet with families and answer their questions.
