2021-2022 EcoSchools Certifications

North Bay, Ontario - The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l'Ontario (CSPNE) was very pleased to learn that four of its schools are receiving Ontario EcoSchools certifications in 2022.

École publique aux Quatre-Vents in Parry Sound has received the Bronze level of certification. École secondaire publique Nipissing Ouest (Sturgeon Falls) and École secondaire publique Écho du Nord  (Kapuskasing) receive Silver certification, while École secondaire publique Odyssée in North Bay takes top honours with a Platinum certification. These schools deserve this recognition because of the level of commitment required from staff and students who work together to reduce their ecological impact and improve their environmental performance.  In order to receive an EcoSchools certification, participating schools had to initiate projects that had a positive environmental impact.

According to the report issued by the national organization, as of June 15, 2022, CSPNE schools have completed 51 green actions, experienced 100 hours of outdoor learning and planted or maintained 87 trees in one or more of the communities served by the schools.  In addition, the 4 recipient schools are aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through water conservation, energy efficiency, waste-free lunches, detour of over 3,000 kg of waste from landfills and school ground greening activities.

In fact, the EcoSchools Action Bank includes over 50 actions to choose from in 12 themes, from waste to energy, health and wellness, biodiversity and nature. Some of the most popular initiatives at CSPNE include community clean-up, reduction of harmful single-use plastics, indoor gardening and greenhouses, innovative reuse and recycling, and waste separation.

Ontario EcoSchools is an educational program that educates environmental leaders to reduce the ecological footprint in schools and build environmentally friendly school communities. http://www.ontarioecoschools.org/fr/

The CSPNE would like to congratulate the participants who contributed to the many eco-friendly projects.
