For Immediate Release
North Bay - Following a rigorous democratic school process, at the April 12 Board meeting, trustees approved the appointment of the 3 students who will serve as the students' political voice for the upcoming school year.
A group of students from all CSPNE high schools proceeded to elect the student trustees who will represent them in 2024-2025. The student vote took place on March 28.
Janelle Dauphinais of École secondaire publique Nipissing Ouest (ÉSPNO) in Sturgeon Falls was elected president. She, who enjoyed her first experience during the 2023-2024 school year as vice-president of the southern region, cedes her place to another ÉSPNO student, Clara Windatt. As for the northern region vice-president, Amélie Éthier of École secondaire publique Écho du Nord in Kapuskasing won the position.
In accordance with the established process, candidates were asked to deliver a speech outlining their reasons for running for election to the student council. These included the desire for an enriching experience that would enable them to actively contribute to discussions at the Board's political table, as well as the opportunity to give a voice to CSPNE high school students, whose reality is very different from that of school trustees.
The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l'Ontario wishes them every success in this new adventure, and takes this opportunity to thank outgoing student trustees Jo-zef Mathieu (École secondaire publique Odyssée) and Émile Bouchard (École secondaire publique Renaissance). Your commitment has certainly allowed CSPNE students to be represented and heard.
